For Writers and Prospective CarePoint Authors

We are always looking for authors/resource developers, so if you are interested please print out and carefully read the information on this page before submiting a query, proposal or manuscript to us.

The only materials we are considering at this time are:
1

care ministry/support group leader training resources (manuals or software)

2

workbooks and small group resources on life challenges (such as grief, substance abuse, pornography addiction, physical disability, guilt & shame...).

Please note that CarePoint is a ministry with a niche publishing arm—not a trade publisher. The training resources, quick reference materials, and workbooks we publish are not ends in themselves but serve as a means of promoting Christian care and healing through the CarePoint support group ministry, which equips congregations with the resources they need to build a dynamic small care group ministry. We do not distribute our titles through retail/trade sales & distribution channels but rather market them directly to churches and para-church organizations.

Do your research: Understand the realities of publishing in 2007. Projections indicate that a record number of new titles (more than 215,000) will be released in the U.S. this year. The average bookstore has shelf space for 15,000 books (not different titles). Do your research and know your options given the various publishing models available (publishing on demand; self-publishing; traditional publishing; niche publishing). Decide which model best suits your publishing objectives and pursue it...with realistic expectations.

General Guidelines

Above all, we're interested in fresh perspectives and unique angles/approaches to common "dis-eases" facing contemporary Christians. We are seeking grace-full manuscripts/programs that integrate timeless biblical principles with sound helping strategies (e.g., psychological principles) to mediate the love, grace, and mercy of the Lord Jesus in a broken world. If you write to encourage the discouraged, give hope to the hopeless, joy to the joyless, and grace to us all, we want to hear from you.

Please note that our CarePoint mission is committed to sharing the Best News of all, the radical grace of God through Jesus, and thus we are not interested in:

  • Graceless legalism in any form
  • "Tomes" long on theory and short on application

CarePoint: A Ministry that Publishes Ministry-Equipping Resources

CarePoint is a publisher of small group resources designed to equip Christian caregivers with the program, training, and resources they need to minister to those in the congregation and community facing various life challenges.

We publish primarily non-fiction resources, though we will also consider novella-length fiction that could be adapted to a support group resource.

  • Our interactive software titles (CDs) are designed to accelerate learning through the use of multimedia features, computer-scored assessments, virtual characters who serve as the user's guide through the material, etc.
  • Our printed titles are more like workbooks than textbooks; they are concise, practical manuals typically spiral bound (though in some cases we might opt for perfect, or square-spine, binding).

Our "niche" specialty: Christian caregiving resources for those who hurt and those who care.

Our target audience: Those who hurt and those who care. Seekers, Believers, Pastors, Pastoral Counselors, lay and professional Christian counselors (peer counselors to licensed professional mental health professionals), church libraries. Churches, non-profits. This is a true publishing/writing ministry.

Pre-Submission Checklist (Non-Fiction):
Ask yourself the following questions (which we will ask ourselves when evaluating your submission):

  1. Does your material offer a fresh approach to the topic? Is your angle unique? What sets it apart from existing materials on the same topic? Edgy is good!Is it practical and useful? Is the material clearly presented and concise? (CarePoint workbooks tend to be light on theory and heavy on application.)
  2. Is it case-based (i.e., do case studies and vignettes demonstrate someone overcoming the issue)? Does it offer the reader exercises and practical application guidance?

  3. Why would a small group minister select your manuscript over other resources the cover the same topic or issue?
  4. Does your work reflect biblical principles and sound helping strategies? (Remember: CarePoint is a transdenominational publisher that targets a readership of evangelical and mainstream Christians.)
